I agree with Scott Morrison that mental illness should not be used as a sole excuse for last week’s incident in Bourke Street. As an Ahmadi Muslim who works closely with imams, I consider Hassan Khalif Shire Ali’s actions an evil attack that can never be justified under any circumstances. The Quran says to kill an innocent person is akin to killing the whole of mankind.

However, I felt that Mr Morrison was unfair to rebuke the entire Muslim community and imams for not speaking out against extremism. When we do speak out, we are blamed for seeking attention and sympathy from others.
